NADSU seeks subsidy for summit-affected drivers

The officials of Nagkahiusang Drayber sa Sugbo yesterday said they will lobby for the local government officials to subsidize the public utility jeepney drivers affected during the holding of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit.

During yesterday's press conference, Tony Pogado, NADSU president, said the traffic rerouting dry run yesterday was a clear manifestation that PUJ drivers will have less income following the closure of several routes.

"Sa dry run lang luoy na kaayo ang mga drivers unya mag unsa na man kaha kon upat ka adlaw ang ASEAN Summit," Pogado said.

As an alternative, Pogado said they would ask the government to subsidize PUJ drivers for their food and other financial needs during the duration of the summit.

"Ok ra g'yud kon mohatag sila og bugas sa mga PUJ drivers kay unsaon pag-survive aning upat ka adlaw. Kinahanlang motabang g'yud ang mga government ani para mo-subsidized sa mga drivers," Pogado said.

"Kun imong kuwentahon, wala gyuy kita ang mga drivers ana ug kuyaw gani nga dili makakuha sa boundery fee nga P700 matag adlaw kay kuwaan pa na sa pang gasolina ug pagkaon pa nila." he added.

NADSU is willing to sit down with the Cebu City government on its move to push for a subsidy for the affected PUJ drivers.

"Lisod kaayo may pa mopauli na lang mi kay alkanse kaayo," a Mandaue City PUJ driver told ABS-CBN TV Patrol, adding that the half-day work only earned him P200.
