Birthday Bash

QUIET TIME WITH MATEO - The Freeman

Vincent’s godfather, Don Estoque, was the richest man in the whole town. A high, imposing wall surrounded his big house and lot. The property looked like a resort hotel! It had two swimming pools with electronic waves, a mini golf course, and a carnival with all sorts of rides.

“I wish I were as rich!” many people said.

One day Vincent invited all his classmates, including Teo, for his eighth birthday, “My godfather will throw me a party in his house on Sunday morning!”

“Yes!” the students yelped. “We’ll be there!”

Teo, however, felt sad. This was his chance to see Mr. Estoque’s house, but the party would be on a Sunday. He had to attend Sunday school and the church service. His Tatay and five Lolas always reminded him, “Sunday is the Lord’s day!”

He asked his Tatay’s permission anyway.

“No, Teo. You can’t attend the party,” his father was firm. “Nothing is more important than God.”

That Sunday, Teo was even sadder – everyone would be at the big house except him. But when he got to church, he was surprised to see his three Christian friends there – BJ, Brandon, and Budik!

“Why aren’t you at the party?” he asked.

“It’s the Lord day!” three voices said in unison.

Beaming, Teo echoed his Tatay, “Nothing is more important than God!”
