Palms for Archbishop Jose Palma

Agustin L. Sollano, Jr. - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two palms go to Cebu’s Archbishop Jose Palma for making a stand on two local controversial issues. His name hugged the cover pages of the Freeman’s August 18 issue (Palma: Scrap Pork) and its August 19 issue (Palma favors tree cutting).

In my article in The Freeman Lifestyle Sunday (Aug. 17, 2014, p. 16), I expressed the hope the Pope Francis would beatify our very own Bishop Teofilo B. Camomot who was exceptionally not money minded.

This time, I would like to endorse Archbishop Jose Palma to be the third Filipino Cardinal of the current time. Luzon has Cardinal Tagle, while Mindanao has Cardinal Quevedo. My prayer and hope is that the Visayas will have Cardinal Palma. He really deserves to be consecrated as a Filipino Prince of the Roman Catholic Church.

If and when this sincere hope and prayer will be realized, then this will be the third palm for Archbishop Palma.

I would like to heartily thank all those who congratulated me for being chosen as one of the ten TOCA awardees this year (The Outstanding Cebuano Award): in particular, Anseca Development Corporation and ADC Property Ventures, Inc. (with Segundino Selma, Jr. at the helm), Tocayo Gus (Atty. August Go of UC), the Sollano Clan (headed by my cousin Rido), relatives on my mother’s side (Ma. Lira, Ma. Lilia, Jose Lucero, Ma. Lita, Ma. Leilani, Luke Marie, Ma. Ledwina Lumbab Tabotabo). God bless you all for your expressions of congratulations and solidarity.
