Amazon Electro Run 2014

CEBU, Philippines - To regain popular interest in night runs among Cebuanos, Amazon Events Cebu is presently making preparations for a festival of lights and electronic dance music that is sure to reintroduce the appeal of "night team fun runs." The run, dubbed "Amazon Electro Run 2014," is set on July 26 at the open field of the Cebu Business Park.

"The Amazon Electro Run is bent on developing that team spirit in groups rather than competing with fellow runners," says event organizer Mary Grace G. Velasco. "We eye non-runners taking a debut via this event. Nobody has to compete with anybody. Although we have to recognize the top finishers, we also put a premium on people who can [simply] finish what they've started."  Velasco adds that for as long as a participating runner completes the run, he or she will get a finisher's medal."

Assembly is at Sumilon Road (back of Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion) at 7 p.m. Gun time is 10 p.m. There is no cut-off time for the run itself so runners, especially the newbies, are encouraged to finish their courses - either 5k or 10k.

Organizers describe it to be a "night of electro-city" to celebrate fitness, health, and youth spirit. Audio Kraft, one of the event partners, is putting up several stations along the route to provide the lights and sound for the run.  Water stations and portalets are to be set up too.

There's an after-run electro party showcasing a fireworks display, performances by the San Diego Dancers, grilled food and party cocktail selections.

Registration for Amazon Electro Run 2014 is now ongoing. Interested parties may visit Runners Shop at Ayala Center Cebu (across Time Zone) or register online at www.race.ph/AmazonElectro. Registration closes on July 23.

Part of the proceeds of the event goes to a children's home and a balik-bahay program, a shelter rehab project for typhoon-ravaged homes in Camotes Island. (FREEMAN)
