Siquijor longing

Rycky Pilapil - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - It’s unlike the islands of Boracay, Bantayan or Bohol where you can claim to have been once or twice and after the third time you get over it. Hence, you can just easily brush-off the thought of going back there. Not Siquijor, this one destination that you wish and want to experience over and over, more than three times.

My love for the fire island of Siquijor started nine years ago when I first set foot on the enchanted province. Since then, my trips were more than once in a year’s time. But a couple of years back, life seemed to get a little hectic that my jaunts halted. Thus, when I got the opportunity to travel back this year, I knew I had to make up for lost time.

Of Magic and Magicians. In a span of two years, I was hoping some new attraction must have sprung on the island. That I found out from a cousin about “Salamangka.” Of course, the curious me, just had to have a taste of the newest resort in town.

The colloquial term for magic, Salamangka is just the perfect fit to be in a venue known for its juju. Everything about this resort is just fresh and new. From its infrastructure down to its linens, from its pool to its cutleries, from its furniture to its scuba equipment and from its tiles down to bedroom amenities, everything is just so brand new. Lucky me, I had the privilege to be one of the few to experience the resort’s magic – and that is its genuine warm service from local staff. Although their restaurant menu needs a little brushing-up but, all in all, the stay made me feel like a super magician.

And speaking of food, another great place we have discovered was “U.Story.” This cozy property of only five cabanas boasts of a diner that serves probably the most impeccable food on the island. And why not? The chef, after all, is an island native who has sharpened his culinary expertise in France. Bon appétit!

Full Cirlcle. What was supposed to be a two-night stay turned three as we settled on our second and third day at the Coco Grove Resort. Now this is where it all started. You see, on my very first visit, I immediately fell in love with this resort. It combines Nature’s pristine on a setting so conducive for relaxation and total-getaway-of-it-all. Its amenities and service can equal – if not surpass – any international destination. And that I can definitely and proudly attest.

My fascination with Siquijor is of no voodoo. But I urge you to, at least for once in your lifetime, visit this enchanted island. Get yourself to wander on the wonder that I am so zealously sharing with you.
