Amazing Moms

There are some women in this world who have set the record of being "extraordinary" mothers, and it's interesting to see why these women have been named so.

First Test Tube Mother:

Lesley Brown and her husband from the United Kingdom had been trying to produce a child for nine years, but without success. Until, in 1977, the couple visited Dr. Patrick Steptoe, who convinced them to try an experimental procedure in which Lesley's embryos would be extracted, fertilized and then placed in a special solution for it to grow. When an embryo grew to a certain size, it was then transplanted back into her uterus. Nine months later, she became the mother to the world's first test tube baby named Louise Joy Brown.

Heaviest Mother:

The mother  weighing a staggering 532 pounds, the high-risk delivery involved at least 30 doctors doing a caesarean procedure, in 2007. It was a success. Donna Simpson from Ohio, USA, gave birth to a healthy and normal baby girl.

Longest Pregnancy:

This happened in 1945 to a 25-year old mother named Diana Hunter of Los Angeles, California. The pregnancy lasted a total of 375 days, (a normal pregnancy lasts an average of 280 days) putting in an extra three months for her baby in the womb! The baby, Penny Diana Hunter, was born completely normal. Baffled doctors had come to a conclusion that the pregnancy had just developed slower than normal; but otherwise, still normal.

Male Mother:

Born a woman, but underwent sexual reassignment in 2002, Thomas Beatie from Hawaii went on to marrying his wife the following year. Unable to produce sperm and having a wife who was infertile, they still wanted to have children together. Good thing that Thomas still had his uterus intact and using donated sperm, he became the first female-to-male transsexual to carry a child.

Most Children Born:

In the 18th century in Russia, a farmer's wife gave birth to 69 children (67 of them survived) but she delivered them in sets of unbelievable numbers: 16 sets of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets! After her death, her farmer husband remarried and had an additional 20 children!

Octomom:

Nadya Suleman of California set the record of delivering multiple babies all at once! She previously delivered six babies during her first pregnancy and during her second pregnancy, in 2009, she had delivered eight babies more! This record has yet to be topped.

Oldest Mother:

After receiving fertility treatment at aged 69, Rajo Devi Lohan of India gave birth to her very first daughter Naveen in 2008, making her the oldest mother in the world on record!

Smallest Mother:

At two feet-four inches, Stacey Herald of Kentucky was told that she could never bring a baby to full term. Yet, starting in 2005, she had proven doctors wrong, as she gave birth - not once, not twice but three times! An active and hands-on mother, Stacey was born with a genetic condition that stunted her growth and caused underdeveloped lungs and weak/brittle bones.

Woman With The Most Breast Milk:

In 2012, Alicia Richman of Texas discovered that she was producing excessive amounts of breast milk after the birth of her son. The unused amount she donated was 86.8 gallons, which is enough to feed a baby 33,000 times!

Youngest Mother:

This is one in a billion! Puberty normally starts at a certain age, but for Lina Medina of Peru, a medical condition had her start her periods at just 8 months old! Her parents, fearing that she had a stomach tumour, took Lina to the hospital for check-up, only to find out that she was...  pregnant! Lina was only five years old at that time, in 1939. A month and a half later, she delivered a son named Gerardo by caesarean section. Gerardo was raised thinking that Lina was his sister but learned the truth when he was ten and she was fifteen. The real father had never been revealed.
