Inexpensive Toddler Activities

MOMMY ON BOARD - Kristalle Garcia-Kekert - The Freeman

Sometimes, having to entertain your toddler can cost you a fortune, which at times isn’t really worth doing. Young children absolutely don’t know the value of money so it is really the parents’ decision to control the spending. I have made a list of inexpensive and fun toddler activities I have experienced with my child, without putting a hole into my pocket.

Going up tall structures. Anything high is considered tall for children even if just the second level of a building, but many toddlers seem to enjoy this type of entertainment. To make your toddler feel more secured, a room with huge glass windows to look outside and see the view might be a better option. Watching airplanes and birds fly or looking into the ocean or people walking past is one fascinating thing for a toddler. You might want to bring some snacks and drinks with you for a “small picnic”.

Playing with animals. Children and animals seem to be the best of friends – IF introduced properly to ensure that these creatures will be treated with proper care. Any animal can be great company, even better if you have a dog, cat, guinea pig or any other house pet.

Playing with mud. And spend hours doing so! I have never come across a child who doesn’t enjoy playing with mud, not unless he/she is being told that it is a “dirty” thing to do. This toddler activity can get your child to be creative and more familiar to this type of play.

Playing with water. Every child loves playing with water and can spend long hours in a tub, pool or ocean. To lessen costs, fill the tub with water and throw in some toys for your child to play with. And for swimming in a pool or ocean, this doesn’t really cost you a thing!

Riding or pulling a wagon. This is absolutely true, that riding or pulling a wagon (adding toys on it for fun) is a very interesting thing to do for a toddler. To lessen the costs, you might want to make a wagon yourself as this makes for another wonderful activity!

Riding transport. I would think that it has to do with the buzzing sound that soothes a toddler making it relatively easy to settle into the ride. This is such a fun thing to do; you could even opt for a spin around town!

Sorting out old toys. And actually playing with them! Your child might have been bored with it once, but after not seeing it for a longer period, your toddler might show some interest in that particular toy.

Undoing wrappings.  Most toddlers don’t care too much about what’s inside a present. What seems to interest them is the actual wrapping it’s in. This may sound costly but using old newspapers and magazines are a good option. Tearing the wrappers are all what a child is after!

Up and down lifts/escalators. No matter how many times toddlers go up and down, up and down, they just seem to never tire! Take advantage of this at malls, hotels or any other place where you and your toddler could sort of “play” around without getting told off.
