Bright Summer Workshop open to teens, grownups

CEBU, Philippines - Who says summer is fun just for kids?

Aside from adding 15 more to its 10 summer workshop courses, BRIGHT Academy opens the courses to teens and grownups, as well, especially to parents so they wouldn’t stay idle while waiting for their children.

The new exciting courses are described to be the “non-usual” just like disc-jockeying/spinning, floral arrangement and event styling, and makeup tutorial on top of photography, theater workshop, professional hosting, modeling, film and video production, among others.

DJ/spinning will be handled by DJ Academy of Manila and is open to 12 years old and offered at P7,500); floral arrangement and event styling by Eastwood Flowers (for 15-60 years old) is at P10,000 inclusive of local and imported flowers and decorating materials; modeling with Models Association of Cebu is at P10,000 inclusive of materials and comes with a professional photoshoot set card.

Makeup tutorial which is perfect for moms and daughters will be handled by Carmel Villongco from Manila. She is makeup artist to celebrities Marian Rivera, Maricar Reyes, Cheska Garcia, among many others. This is for 12-50 years old with a fee of P4,000.

“We make our rates as uniform as possible to make it more affordable. Students may also choose more than one course for as long as schedules are not conflicting,” she added.

The bigger BRIGHT Summer Workshop is one of the school’s ways of highlighting its 20th anniversary. “We want to do something on a bigger scale,” says headmaster Neil Arnold Montesclaros.

Last year’s enrollees reached around 500, only 15 percent of which are the students of BRIGHT Academy. Cheryl Pages-Alba, workshop head, looks forward to an increasing trust among “outsiders” in the school’s summer programs. “We also acknowledge the various villages near us. Residents have come to us and availed of our courses. It’s nice that we have already succeeded in enticing even non-BRIGHT students to enroll,” she mused.

Montesclaros, on the other hand, expressed that they encourage more parents this year to share in their children’s interests by joining the courses. “We let them join so they can assist and serve as best models to their kids,” he said.

Enrolment is ongoing. Reservation fee is P500. One can also enroll at Playroom in Ayala Center Cebu. Classes start May 6, Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kids as young as 1.5 years old may join the Play to Learn Group; as young as three years old for the Baking and Cooking course.

For the rest of the interesting courses like Kenjutsu (Japanese swordsmanship), Archery with Coach Jose Montawan, Theater workshop with Little Boy Productions, Photography with Erwin Lim, Music and Lyrics with Jude Gitamondoc, Swimming with Hall-of-Famer Coach Niña Dumasis, and many more, check Facebook event page: Bright Academy Summer Workshops.
