As Hope springs Art

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - As it has long been argued that "there is no such thing as art, only artists", one can't deny that today's plethora of artistic terms and tenses has become so muddled with different artistic movements and their derivatives, bound and set free by the ideals of what is de facto and what is the de jure, making the context of art a fickle one to grasp and understand.

But as fickle as how art has become to comprehend, exhibits like Hope Springs Art, held in Canvas Bistro Bar & Gallery at the 2nd level of the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu, comes as a welcome sight for visual art aficionados, with the exhibit molded and forged by a humble premise - the celebration of art as a means of helping others.

Organized by visual artist Palmy Pe-Tudtud, Hope Springs Art showcases more than 25 hope-inspired works of some of Cebu's on-the-rise and established maestros, with the exhibit pledging a significant portion of its proceeds to the ICanServe Foundation.

Featuring a diverse selection of works by Katherine Paler-Rivera, Jun Dale Bebita, Gigi Ocampo, Cesar Castillo, Palmy Pe-Tudtud, Minette Ramo, Jose "Javy" Villacin, J. Karl Roque, Karby Belo, Fred Galan, Marivel Galan, Sonia Yrastorza and more, Hope Springs Art falls in line with October's ascribed Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with its organizers and artists cutting no slack in the creation of artworks.

Far from being your everyday fundraiser, Hope Springs Art's ties with the ICanServe Foundation stands by the foundation's initiatives and programs, which are primarily geared on giving focus on the value of early detection in breast cancer cases.

With Canvas Bistro Bar & Gallery playing the role of venue for Hope Springs Art, the exhibit and what it stands for effectively complements Canvas' established and hard-earned standing as one of Cebu's unique venues where visual art and fine dining can be found and experienced, defining the event as one of Cebu's more unique art exhibits this year.

As Hope Springs Art will be on exhibit until the end of November, everyone is invited to drop by Canvas Bistro Bar & Gallery and witness a rare occasion where art goes beyond defining what is beautiful to behold, extending that celebration of beauty in art into something more.

Hope Springs Art will be on exhibit until November 30, 2012, in Canvas Bistro Bar & Gallery, located at the second level of the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu. (FREEMAN)
