FengShui for the dead

- Quennie S. Bronce -

CEBU, Philippines - The dead may have left this earthly world but this does not mean that they no longer affect the way we, the living, live our lives. This is the belief of the burial or Yin FengShui, which, according to geomancer and fengshui master Aldric Dalumpines, is the highest form of fengshui.

“Burial fengshui defines the future of the heirs, descendants, or next living generations’ fortunes or misfortunes of the dead person or ancestor,” he said.

Master Aldric, who is the fengshui consultant of over 5,000 homes, offices and prominent individuals, including top executives of corporations, said it is vital to let the dead rest in peace so that they can help the living from the next life. “This is the reason why we have wake rituals like the wearing of white mourning clothes, the offering of material goods that the dead liked such as food, clothing and shoes, even paper monies. These are our pabaon to them to the next life,” he said.

He added that many Asian taipans take fengshui for the dead seriously because they want to keep wealth in the family. “These people take good care of the graves of their grandparents, parents, siblings and children to ensure that their dead have a great afterlife and the living will also have beneficial lives.”

To illustrate how some people take burial fengshui seriously, Master Aldric shared that some of the kin of the dead even fight over who will control or take care of the burial and funeral rites for a dead parent or ancestor. “This is anchored on the tradition that whoever takes care of the fengshui of the dead shall inherit and benefit most from the good karma and wealth acumen of the deceased,” he added.

So how does fengshui for the dead work? Here are some tips from Master Aldric.

• Never bury siblings on top of each other. A sibling or relative buried on top of another will result to incest in the family. Also, if a brother or sister is atop each other or if a young one is atop an older one,“puro pasaway ang young descendants to older ones.”

• Graves located at a dead end junction causes a lot of unmarried descendants in the family, as well as abortions or infertility problems. Dead end junctions symbolize thwarted human dreams.

• A salient secret belief in fengshui tradition is whatever you burn or offer comes back to you sixfold on earth. So it is better to offer to the dearly departed the things they like. Master Aldric shares that one of this clients, a famous taipan in the country, burns six truckloads of dead money offerings to his dad in the family mausoleum incinerator!

• Never bury a husband to the right of the wife. Doing so will result to male descendants being henpecked (under the saya) by their wives.

• Master Aldric also advises to consult a geomancer for the correct direction of the grave. “If the dead is buried wrongly in terms of compass orientation, the result is 25 years of karmic suffering to the remaining descendants. “For example, if the father is a womanizer, nature will take back its toll on all women descendants for the number of years his grave was in the wrong direction in terms of fengshui compass degrees.”

Because many people are now aware of burial fengshui, Master Aldric said that exhumations and reburial are common nowadays to correct the mistakes in burying the dead. Among his clients who applied burial fengshui is actress Susan Roces, who requested him to renovate the mausoleum of Fernando Poe Jr., the daughter of Norberto and Salustiana Ty (family of George Ty of Metrobank), who asked him to apply burial fengshui at their mausoleum in the Manila Memorial Park, and EastWest Bank President Tony Moncupa, who asked him to do fengshui at the family burial plot in Dinalupihan, Bataan.

Master Aldric, however, warns that fengshui should only be applied by a professional geomancer or fengshui expert. “Before you apply fengshui for the living and for the dead, make sure that your fengshui consultant is really an expert in the field, lest you will suffer the consequences.” (FREEMAN)
