Why girls go gaga over Edward Cullen

- Bless Roble- Misa -

I was shaking my head, trying to erase the memory of Edward Cullen from my mind as I was opening the door to our house. The long drive home did not help the confusion, but rather, strengthened the not-so-familiar-feeling that I felt after watching Twilight.

Yup! I am referring to that oh so gorgeous vampire in the hit movie Twilight. The guy who didn’t look like he just came from a hunting trip, but looked like he just stepped down from the catwalk. Damn! His face never leaves my mind. His mysterious smile accentuating his red lips. And the way he stares- makes me shiver down to the very core!

Reality check: When was the last time I felt like this? Uhmmm… Devon Sawa’s 12-minute appearance in Casper? No. Titanic days- about 10 years ago. The time when I crazily wall papered Leonardo Dicaprio’s face in my room. And I had all the excuse to feel that way being the naïve and romantic 15 year-old girl. But now? After four years of being married, after giving birth to two kids, what’s my excuse? Again, his stare. But there is something to it than that.

At first you’d think Robert Pattinson, the guy who played Edward, was just perfectly good-looking and played his vampire role superbly that we were all taken by him. I myself was almost on the verge of declaring him the new Hollywood god, but then it hit me; It wasn’t really Robert, (though I would give him credit for playing the role nicely), but it was all Edward- right from the very first time we catch a glance at him at the cafeteria window, to the last time we saw him kiss Bella’s flawless throat while dancing in the gazebo.

Trying to remember everything again, I smiled as the panic I felt slowly died down. Thank God my room would be spared with Robert Pattinson’s face because of my realization. I don’t really know what my husband’s reaction would be the moment he would step in our haven and see another man’s face smiling at him. I’m guessing he would be truly furious.

But of course, it is natural for girls to droll over Edward because of his beautiful face, and his lithe body. His stare would make any woman stare back and be mesmerized. But it is how Stephenie Meyer created “Edward” that makes all the female community fall in love with him. I mean who wouldn’t?

Edward was ready to risk everything just for Bella; He can suffer the greatest of pains just so he can see his loved one breathe another day; The vampire who would rather give up his immortality and die than to live an eternity without his girl; The boy who can edit a simple “goodbye”, to a “hurry back to me” power line; The man who wouldn’t stop with the all too classic line “I love you”, but would nonchalantly add his own timeless phrase of “you are my life now”.

And so I ask: who wouldn’t be drawn to something, or shall I say, someone like that, with the vampire charm as an added bonus? I know I would- no matter what age I may reach.

Being a girl, I fantasized somebody who can say to me those words; being a woman, I dreamed of meeting someone who can risk everything for me; being a wife, I can only wish my husband to stay and love me till our last breath.

Edward was the epitome of a perfect man; the ideal guy we all dreamed about at a certain point in our lives. The one true person we want to share our lives with. Somebody we love and who would love us in return. So it isn’t news if I to feel what I am feeling- or if you do too .After all, it is what we all wished for. Laugh and deny it all, sister. But I know better. This longing is something that we can never outgrow. Not even when we turn to vampires.

And so to all the girls, and ehem, women, who appreciate the true beauty of a man- inside and out, I say good luck. And may you find your true Edward Cullen- I know I have.
