Ynna Asistio nabs first lead role

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky Calderon - The Freeman

Ynna Asistio gets her biggest break as a lead actress in Eagle Broadcasting Network’s upcoming romance drama series "Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw," which starts airing on Nov. 28, Saturday, at NET 25.

Helmed by award-winning director Eduardo Roy, Jr., the series pairs Ynna with Geoff Eigenmann. This is the first time that Ynna and Geoff are working together in a drama series.

The young actress is very thankful to Net 25 for entrusting to her the role of Reina in the series written by Bing Castro-Villanueva.

“If it is meant for you, mapupunta talaga sa iyo,” said Ynna at the media launch of "Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw" last week. It was Anjo Yllana who recommended her to be the lead actress but she didn’t want to believe at first that she nabbed the part until she got assurance from the EBC bosses.

“I really didn’t want to believe I got the role since I have had past experiences that I already taped for shows only to be replaced and lost the role,” said Ynna.

She admitted there was a time she was kind of depressed because nothing was happening to her career. She had very few TV guest stints. But maybe the stars in the universe conspired to give Ynna the role of a lifetime in "Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw."

While waiting for projects to come her way during the lockdown, Ynna decided to take stock of herself. She decided to lose weight and keep her body fit. Somehow that made her feel confident again.

“A lot of people didn’t have work during the pandemic but I am lucky I was offered this series by NET 25. This is a very big opportunity for me and I am very blessed that NET 25 trusted me that I can do it,” said Ynna.

Incidentally, the title "Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw" was borrowed from a movie in the 1960s that starred Fernando Poe, Jr and Ms. Susan Roces. But the story of the series is not in any way similar to the movie.

When asked about her love life, Ynna said she is focused on her career. Matters of the heart will come eventually.

She is very comfortable working with Geoff. They got along very well. “It feels good when people trust you. This is my first big break as a lead actress in a drama series and I would like to thank NET 25 for this big opportunity. Geoff is very easy to work with and we are comfortable with each other. If you will see that we have rapport with each other, it is because we are very comfortable together.”

As Direk Edong said, Ynna and Geoff have chemistry. “It’s something that you cannot fake. It is either you have it or you don’t but with Ynna and Geoff, I already noticed that during the shoot. I am the very first who can feel if the kilig is there and they do have it,” said the director who is also handling his first teleserye.

“Ynna is the type of actress whose charm grows on you. At first, she may seem ordinary but when she acts, you can feel the charm, especially if you take pains to guide her acting. She definitely can act. Just give her time to shine and she will.”

"Ang Daigdig Ko’y Ikaw" is also supported by a mix of fresh and veteran cast members namely Tanya Gomez, Richard Quan, Shiela Marie Rodriguez, Arielle Roces, AJ Muhlach, Anna Mabasa-Muhlach, Manalo Silayan, Jiro Custodio, Paulyn Ann Poon, Myrna Villanueva Tinio and Jellex David. Featured in a special role is Ms. Elizabeth Oropesa.

NET 25 recently relaunched its new logo that conveys strength, uniqueness, power and bravery in facing the global pandemic manifested in its vision to bring truth to the world and serve relevant content that inspires life in these interesting times.
