Robin receives praise for ‘10000 Hours’

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Action star Robin Padilla got tons of congratulations after the special preview of “10000 Hours” on Tuesday at Greenbelt Cinema 3 in Makati City. Those who were invited to the preview praised Robin’s performance and the movie’s daring take on the many issues facing our nation.

The movie received an A rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board, a testament to the film’s high quality. This made Robin say that he hopes 10000 Hours would make good at the box office, expressing hope it will also make it as among the top moneymakers. “We know we have a good project in our hands. Our movie is fiction but you can identify with the characters in the story na parang katulad ng mga kilala natin,” Robin says.

10000 Hours is based loosely on the story of Sen. Panfilo Lacson during the time he went into hiding. In the movie, Robin plays a cop turned senator who also went into hiding to find a witness who will prove his innocence in a case he was implicated in.

The movie is directed by Joyce Bernal who was amazed by the desire of her producers to win an award. “I was really surprised that the reason why they wanted to produce the film is for them to win an award,” says direk Joyce. “Nagustuhan ko ang movie kasi matapang ang script, walang takot talaga. Eye opener ang movie para sa audience,” she adds.

10000 Hours also stars Mylene Dizon, Bela Padilla, Michael de Mesa, Cholo Barretto, Markki Stroem, Winwyn Marquez and Alden Richards who plays the young Robin in the flick.

With his performance, Robin is predicted to win the filmfest best actor award.

The iconic “Shake, Rattle and Roll” from Regal Entertainment will be missed in this month’s Metro Manila Film Festival. Without movie that is considered a staple in the festival, will MMFF be the same?

But there is no need to worry as Mother Lily Monteverde, the woman behind Regal Entertainment, has made sure that fans of horror-suspense movies will have their anticipated good scare in the MMFF. She has teamed up with Star Cinema with “Pagpag...Siyam na Buhay” which brings to the big screen the hit love team of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. This is their first horror film.

It’s almost like the “SSR” trilogy in terms of star power – it only has one story but features a star-studded line up just like “SSR.”

Aside from Kathleen and Daniel, also known as Kathniel, “Pagpag” also stars Paulo Avelino, Shaina Magdayao, Matet de Leon, Janus del Prado, Miles Ocampo, among others.

Directed by Frasco Mortiz, Pagpag tells the nine superstitious beliefs about wakes. At some point in your life, you must have been reminded to pass at another place before heading home from a wake otherwise the spirits will follow you home.

The movie aims to educate viewers about the things they would need to do about these beliefs. Pagpag opens on December 25, Christmas Day.

KC Concepcion is playing an action role in “Shoot-to-kill Boy Golden” where she is paired with Laguna Governor Jeorge Ejercito. This also KC’s first acting assignment under Chito Rono.

The script was tailor made for KC and Governor ER that the latter even said boldly that if KC loses the best actress award, that would mean she was cheated.

Aside from doing action scenes, KC does a number choreographed by Douglas Nierras for the film’s opening number.

The megastar’s daughter admits getting the jitters the first time she reported on the movie set. After all, she was face-to-face with the Direk Chito Roño.
