9th Golden Screen Awards finalists

The Entertainment Press Society announces the finalists to this year’s 9th Golden Screen Awards to be held on March 24, Saturday at the Teatrino at the Promenade Greenhills, San Juan City.

Superstar Nora Aunor is recipient of the Gawad Lino Brocka Lifetime Achievement Award.

Eight movies made it as contenders in the category Best Motion Picture-Drama while four made it as finalists in the Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy category.

Versatile actress Eugene Domingo scored twin nominations this year: Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role-Musical or Comedy for her effective portrayal in the 2011 Cinemalaya entry Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank (for which she won the Best Actress award) and the same movie is also her entry at the Asian Film Awards where she is nominated as Best Actress.

Eugene also got a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2011 entry, My Househusband, Ikaw Na!

The family drama “Ikaw ang Pag-ibig got the most number of nominations with 13. This was followed by Nino and Ang Babae sa Septic Tank that got 12 nominations each.

Alvin Yapan’s “Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa” got ten nominations while Joel Lamangan’s Patikul garnered nine nominations. Also making it as a best picture contender is “Deadline”, another Joel Lamangan flick.

The Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, big winner in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival pocketed 7 nominations including Best Picture.

Best Motion Picture- Drama: "Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa" (Cinemalaya/Vin Yapan/Alem Chua Productions; "Deadline" (Xiti Productions/A.E.I. Movie Productions; "Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig" (The Marilou Diaz Abaya Film Institute and Arts Center); "Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story" (Scenema Concept/Viva Films); "Niño" (Cinemalaya/Handurawan Films; "Paglipad ng Anghel" (Buruka Films); "Patikul" (Cinemalaya/Xiti Productions; and "Thelma" (Time Horizon Pictures).

 Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy: "Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank" (Cinemalaya/Martinez Rivera Films/Quantum Films); "Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me" (Cinemalaya/Noel Ferrer Productions; "My Househusband: Ikaw Na!" (OctoArts Films); and "Zombadings 1 Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington" (Origin8 Media Productions).

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- Drama: Angel Locsin ("In The Name of Love"), Fides Cuyugan Asencio ("Niño), Ina Feleo ("Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig"), Jean Garcia ("Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa") and Maja Salvador ("Thelma").

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role- Drama: Aga Muhlach ("In The Name of Love"), Dingdong Dantes ("Segunda Mano"), John Wayne Sace ("Pintakasi"), Martin de los Santos ("Patikul"), Paulo Avelino ("Ang Sayaw...") and Sid Lucero ("Paglipad ng Anghel").

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- Musical or Comedy: Eugene Domingo ("Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank"), Judy Ann Santos ("My Househusband"), Lovi Poe ("Temptation Island"), Mercedes Cabral ("Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me"), Rufa Mae Quinto ("Temptation Island") and Sarah Geronimo ("Catch Me... I'm In Love").

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role- Musical or Comedy: Edgar Allan Guzman ("Ligo Na U..."), JM de Guzman ("Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank"), Martin Escudero ("Zombadings 1 Patayin Sa Sindak Si Remington") and Ryan Agoncillo ("My Househusband").

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role- Drama, Musical or Comedy: Dimples Romana ("My Neighbor's Wife"), Eugene Domingo ("My HouseHusband"), Racquel Villavicencio ("Niño), and Shamaine Buencamino ("Niño"). 

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role- Drama, Musical or Comedy: Allen Dizon ("Patikul"), Art Acuña ("Niño"), Dennis Trillo ("Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow"), John Regala ("Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story"), Marvin Agustin ("Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig"), Nonie Buencamino ("Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig"), and Tirso Cruz, III ("Deadline").

Breakthrough Performance by an Actress: Angeli Nicole Sanoy (Patikul), Eula Caballero ("Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow"), Lexi Fernandez ("The Road"), and Solenn Heussaff ("Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow").

Breakthrough Performance by an Actor: Alden Richards ("The Road"), Derrick Monasterio ("The Road"), Kean Cipriano ("Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank"), Mikael Daez ("Temptation Island") and Rocco Nacino ("Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa").
