GMA Network bags honors at the 8th USTv Awards

CEBU, Philippines - Nationwide ratings leader GMA Network, Inc. bagged key recognitions at the 8th USTV Students’ Choice Awards held last February 16 at the UST Medicine Auditorium.

The Network’s banner newscast 24 Oras, anchored by GMA News pillars Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez, marked another victory after winning the Students’ Choice of Local News and Current Affairs Program award.

Meanwhile, GMA’s Vice President for News Programs and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Jessica Soho added another feather to her cap after receiving the Students’ Choice of Female News and Current Affairs host award. Her top-rating public affairs show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho also won as the Students’ Choice of Magazine Program.

GMA's flagship documentary program I-Witness was awarded as Best Documentary Program, while pioneering weekly public affairs show Wish Ko Lang, hosted by Vicky Morales, won as Best Public Service Program.

GMA also won awards for its high caliber entertainment programs including Best Situational Comedy for the reality sitcom Pepito Manaloto starred by ace comedian Michael V., and Best Gag Show for Bubble Gang led by Ogie Alcasid, Michael V., Rufa Mae Quinto, among others.

Finally, the country’s longest running noon-time show Eat Bulaga was named as Best Variety Show.

The USTV Students’ Choice Awards is an annual award-giving body spearheaded by the Office of the Secretary General of University of Sto. Tomas and recognizes programs and personalities that “promote Thomasian values and in harmony with the Catholic teachings.”
