Vic and Pia break silence on split rumors

-

CEBU, Philippines - After weeks of media speculation that the May-December showbiz couple Vic Sotto and Pia Guanio have broken up, the two have finally addressed the rumors in last Sunday’s GMA showbiz news program Showbiz Central.

It was Pia, who also hosts Showbiz Central, who first spoke on the breakup rumors, saying that just because she kept silent about it for weeks, it didn’t mean she was avoiding the issue.

She began, “This is what I wanna say about it. Wala po kayong kailangang ikabahala, or you have nothing really to worry about because me and Vic, we’re very okay. There’s nothing wrong with us. We’re good. Even our working relationship in Eat Bulaga has not been affected in any way.”

“Of course, I have to admit na just like any other relationship, there are ups and downs, you go through rough patches... That’s why I had to keep quiet because I didn’t want too many people to get involved. I want to fix it muna, and we’re in the process of doing that,” added Pia, who then became emotional.

“Kumbaga sa kalye o sa building, we are under construction right now. So I really wanna ask everyone’s understanding right now. I just want you guys to give us more time. Be patient. This is not something that you just throw away in one go. It’s hard enough as it is for both of us without ten gazillion people giving their opinion, making up stories, getting involved...

“I’m glad you guys have been very patient with me, understanding my silence all this time. I have not been [dishonest] at any particular time. I’ve always been straight up with everybody. And I’m just thankful that Vic and I are still good. And I’m very, very happy for that.”

Pia was still in tears when Vic Sotto’s side was also sought out by the show.

Through a phone-patch interview, the comedian tried to make light of the issue. “Ano bang kaguluhan ito? Parang medyo may narinig akong umiiyak diyan?” he joked.

He continued, “Palagay ko malinaw na yung sinabi ni Pia, e, na we’re good, we’re okay. Kasi minsan yung mga espekulasyon, na walang imbestigasyon, e, minsan nakakagulo sa isang relasyon.

“Kaya ang pinakamaganda, kausapin na lang natin si Alion Cion! At yung sapatos ni Cion, lagyan natin ng biton... Kikintab ‘yon!” he laughingly added. “Hindi ibig sabihin sa isang relasyon na parati mo namang sinusubukang pagandahin, parang yung sapatos na pinakikintab parati. So, tulad ng sinabi ni Pia, like in any normal relationship, there will be differences but it’s not something that we couldn’t fix.”

Asked how the rumors started, he said: “I don’t know how it started, ‘wala na kami, may bago’... Ako, aminado ako may bago ako—bagong kotse!”

“Kidding aside, wala namang problema. I don’t even consider it a major problem. In other words, konting tampuhan, binigyan ng masamang kahulugan ng ilang tao hanggang sa lumaki nang lumaki. Yung tampuhan parang naging away, yung away naging hiwalayan. That’s all I have to say.”

“Para matapos na ang tensiyon, tayo’y magrekonsolasiyon,” Vic said, which was met with shrieks of approval from the studio audience.

Asked how he’s wooing back Pia, he said: “Si Pia ang tanungin mo, ako ang sinusuyo niya! Hindi, wala namang suyuan na dapat mangyari. Kasi kung anuman yung naging tampuhan namin, kung anuman ang magiging desisyon namin, e, nasa aming dalawa na ‘yon. And right now, that’s all we can tell everybody, that we’re good, we’re okay. We’re having a lifetime.”

Vic Sotto, 56, who has children with Dina Bonnevie, Coney Reyes, and Angela Luz, met Pia Guanio, 31, on Eat Bulaga, which they co-host.
