Is Christian Bautista smitten with Miss Cebu?

PEN POINT - Ryan Mark -

My beloved OkRyanians (loyal listeners of my afternoon radio program over dyLA909 khz from Mondays to Fridays) deserve roaring applause this week because they gave me news leads which we were able to pursue and print in Hugyaw (the entertainment section of Banat News) two days ago.

Last Wednesday, an OkRyanian from Siquijor messaged me to inquire about what happened to the four disc jocks of 97.1 Lupig Sila of ABS-CBN. Apparently, four jocks of the station have been off air for two weeks already, but I knew nothing about it until the message came along. Honestly, for two months now I have been tuning in to a religious station (FR FM) that has inspirational songs and insights, that is why I knew nothing about MOR.

Another OkRyanian also sent last Wednesday a text insinuating that there is something special going on between Miss Cebu 2008 Sian Maynard and singer Christian Bautista, who were spotted by the texter at a resort in Mactan last April 7 together with two others—a male and a female. I felt it was an interesting tidbit because about a week ago, I got a message from very good friend, Niza Marinas of CDN, that she spotted Christian and Sian, together with Cinbeth Orellano of Miss Cebu Commission, having coffee in Starbucks Ayala. This is getting interesting!

But back to the Lupig Sila DJs. ABS-CBN finally released an official statement yesterday that jocks Kulas ni Duh, James SpiderKaka, Glen Swabeh and Ron Landy’s contracts with the station ended last March 31 and that is why their fans haven’t heard of them since. A highly placed source at ABS-CBN-Cebu explained to me last Wednesday that because they’re bound to a contract, it is the management’s prerogative to renew or not the employment of the said jocks. That said, it should have been end of the story, yet there are other speculations coming from the grapevine.

There’s another version of the story suggesting that the jocks are now off air because they reportedly failed to play an advertisement which got the ire of the advertiser who immediately complained to the management. Interestingly, a Hugyaw reader on Thursday offered another version: that the jocks were only following orders from their superior—they were just doing their job. However, asked for his identity, the message sender did not reveal. He just said he was a fan who was concerned with his idols.

Thus, I reached ABS-CBN-Cebu’s Corporate Communication’s head Jayne Salmeron Abella for comment. She said that the story which came out in Hugyaw last Thursday was true—the jocks’ contracts with the station have ended. According to her, other versions of the story will remain “speculations” unless proven otherwise.

All I can say is that it’s unfortunate for the jocks to have lost their job. It’s sadder because they cannot do anything to regain their job because the option to renew their contracts lies with the management. Yeah, the “law maybe harsh but that is the law.” It’s unfortunate yes, but the jocks’ only choice now is to realize that “when a door closes, a window opens.” After all, the Hugyaw reader also said that the jocks will soon be heard over the airwaves again. As to when and which station, that remains to be seen.

Now moving on to Christian Bautista and Sian Maynard. As soon as the story linking the two saw print in Hugyaw last Thursday, a friend called me up and said, “It’s not Sian but Kris Janson, reigning Miss Cebu.” When told that Sian and Christian were seen reportedly “sweet” towards each other while eating at a restaurant in a resort in Mactan, he could only reply: “Really?”

He further said, “Miabot si Christian diri sa Cebu pag-Holy Week, gisuroy siya ni Kris.” That is why Sian and Christian were seen at a Mactan resort last April 7 with a certain female and a male who turned out to be Kris Janson and Christian’s brother Jonard. Looks like it was a group date.

So are Christian and Kris playing sweet music together? My friend was silent for a while before saying, “Ah, ambot. Dili, friend.”

Oh well, they could just be friends for now but everything starts with friendship. Maybe after some getting-to-know-you, they’ll be more than friends. Let’s wait and see.

CBS News on Q

There is no stopping GMA-7’s sister station QTV11 from importing top caliber shows, and their latest acquisition excites me, even if it means waking up early morning starting this Tuesday, April 21. I’m talking about the premiere of CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Honestly I don’t know Katie and I am not familiar with CBS News. I’m excited though, because I have been wanting to subscribe to a cable service so I can watch CNN or BBC.

So with this latest development from QTV, there is no need for me to subscribe anymore because the world news that I’ve been wanting to see will now come out on free TV Tuesdays to Saturdays via satellite at 7:30am, with replays at 1:00pm and on Saturdays at 12:45pm. As bonus there is also the CBS Evening News Weekend Edition, Sundays and Mondays via satellite at 7:30am, with replays at 1:00pm.

Now, I need to realize my New Year resolution which is to sleep as early as 10pm so that I will be able to wake up early. By then I will be able to catch local news through ABS-CBN’s Maayong Buntag Kapamilya at 6:30, then switch to GMA-7’s Buena Mano at 7, before I’ll be finally really to see the world via CBS Evening News on Q at 7:30am.
