Rufa Mae Quinto wants to be single and happy

- Ricky L. Calderon -

“Status: Single,” which headlines sexy comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto, is the new, wildly-sexy comedy-romance written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes. Starring Rufa Mae as a 30-year-old virgin who is in a mad race to make it to the altar after all her female friends get married one after the other, “Status: Single” is about a woman’s search for the right man.

The movie opens on January 28 as the second co-production venture between Viva Films and Rufa Mae’s On-Q 28 Productions. Lending Rufa Mae support are the actors playing the four contenders in her search for Mr. Right—Rafael Rosell, Alfred Vargas, Mark Bautista and her rumored current flame, Jon Avila, with Paolo Contis as her very macho but very gay best friend.

“Virgin ako rito pero may nakaka-date ako na iba’t-ibang klaseng lalake sa paghahanap kay Mr. Right,” quipped Rufa Mae. It’s the kind of movie that a lot of today’s women—and men—can relate to because deep down, no matter how much we may deny it and no matter how much our lifestyle may contradict it, all of us long to find that perfect life partner.

“Status: Single” also stars Angelu de Leon, Mylene Dizon, Desiree del Valle, and LJ Moreno as her friends who beat her to the altar and pressure here into finally settling down.

Ironically, in real life, Rufa Mae wants to remain single. “Tapos na rin ako sa stage na gano’n, ‘yung gustong mag-asawa. I just want to be single and happy… for the meantime,” she said.

Intrigues spare no one in showbiz, not even the news department of a top network. A lady showbiz news reporter was surprised when she received an email informing her that her services would no longer be renewed by the station.

After spending five years with the station that is supposed to be run by people who have great faith in God and thus, deemed to be compassionate and humane, she instead gets this kind of shabby treatment. She just went on a maternity leave and was supposed to report for work by December. But to her dismay, she learned that two of her colleagues (one female and one male) had been badmouthing her. They discredited the lady reporter by telling the bosses that even if she was on leave, she was using the morning show which she belongs to transact business with other people. As to what kind of business, only these two blabbermouths know because they just made up the story to gang up on the hapless lady showbiz news reporter.

Unfortunately, the bosses chose to side and listen with the blabbermouths, not even taking the time to ask the concerned reporter the veracity of the information given them. They just took the story (lies, if you ask us) hook, line and sinker and dumped the lady showbiz reporter without getting her side of the story.

The poor lady showbiz news reporter was even accused of using her service van for her personal use, which she said is untrue. They told her that she used the van whenever she shopped for grocery items and asked to be brought to her house. None of this happened. And granting, for the sake of argument, that such thing happened, doesn’t she deserve the right to air her side as well? There are always two sides to a story. And if there was really a complaint against her, how come she didn’t receive a memo regarding that? Every person deserves his or her day in court. Everyone deserves to have his or her side heard.

The lady showbiz news reporter was so hurt, not so much because she lost her job, but because of the manner in which she was treated by the boss—especially because she wasn’t given the chance to explain. Although she added that there’s no need for her to explain because she didn’t do anything wrong. But she rues that it’s probably what she gets for being diligent in her job—dumped like trash. And in such a rude manner at that—being told that her contract would no longer be renewed through email.

Yes, “Butas (Loophole)” is a sex-oriented indie movie, but its director Alejandro “Bong” Ramos exerted best creative efforts to give sex and nudity rhyme, reason, style and finesse in his second outing.

The cast includes award-winning hunk actor Allen Dizon who did not disrobe in the film, former Viva Hotbabe Gwen Garci, new stud Marco Morales and Playboy magazine cover Girl of December Mercedes Cabral (of “Serbis”).

The MTRCB gave “Butas” R-18 classification-citing film as an artistically directed erotic film.

For a sex film with attempts to elevate the genre, catch the regular theatrical run in selected cinemas all over the country on January 28 (Wednesday) including Cebu Ultravistarama in Colon.

You be the judge.
