Better Cebu

BUSINESS AFTER BUSINESS - Girlie Garces - The Freeman

Many dream to make Cebu a better place. In fact, in the recently created forum on Viber by Glenn Anthony Soco and Kenneth Cobonpue, for a Better Cebu, shows an outpouring of ideas and expressions of support for improvements that can be made in the province of Cebu.  All our wishes are summarized in not just a call for action but a CRY to make things happen.

If the rally behind this viber group were to be translated into action, I am sure Cebu would be better in no time. But the realities that beset us sometimes pour a discouraging note to the drive. We have to deal with the protocols of government since the people who have the authority to implement the changes that we desire are really those with the mandate from government. For those of us in business, we still cling on to the hope that these young leaders can truly make our wishes come true. But our truths are also limited to how much we are willing to spend in terms of energy, expertise and resources on something that may not immediately have an impact on our business but still work for the greater good.

I admire Dondi Joseph in his immediate pledge to support the movement with resources.  I am sure if we seriously list and segregate all the concerns, then we can come up with what to do first, when, who and how much. Then we can raise the funds. But the question that keeps on coming back is do we have the mandate?

Although both Kenneth and Glenn have authority being part of the Regional Development Council, the rest of us will just have to wait until the plans are properly drawn and each will be asked to give his share. Again, there has to be that commitment of time, talent and treasure.

Let this then be a take off point for making our Cebu, a better place. To Kenneth and Glenn, know we are all behind you and with you in making Cebu a better place. (FREEMAN)
