Alegre Beach Resort extends help to Bohol

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Aside from being known for its white pristine sand and service excellence, Alegre Beach Resort and Spa in Sogod, Cebu has another face to show – its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ---  when they answered the Boholanos’ call for help.

Shedding off their corporate coats and comfortable stature, a 12-man team headed by Ms. Dottie Wurgler-Cronin, General Manager,  headed off to Buenavista, Bohol, one of the identified level 1 areas that were badly affected by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the Province of Bohol last October 15, 2013.

In coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the local government of Buenavista through Mayor “Sample” Tirol, the barangay of Putting Bato, Buenavista with 117 affected families were identified as recipients of Alegre’s relief assistance.

“We want to help and we want to learn more on how else we can help,” said Ms. Cronin, when she together with her team personally handed out the plastic bag overflowing with a little of everything a mother needs to run a household – rice, assorted tin cans, biscuits, milk, cereals, soap, shampoo, water and some over the counter medicines such as Paracetamol for both kids and adults. To top it all, each household got a large Alegre towel to go with their goodies.

“This is an early Christmas for us,” said 78 years old Binancio Estarhiyo as he opened his plastic surrounded by young and eager faces of his grandchildren.

“ Thank you for taking into consideration the children’s nutrition,”  said Day Care teacher Lolita Aparece.

“Alegre’s coordination with DSWD and LGU enabled for each household to receive goods equally. Every household was accounted for equally,” added Aparece.

Alegre’s move to coordinate with  the area vis-à-vis with their available goods, made 117 households look forward to another day and Puting Bato, as a barangay, to believe that in spite of being far from the Poblacion, the  government has not forgotten  them.

Mayor Tirol, Buenavista’s Chief Executive was thankful to Alegre for putting their CSR in the right place and more so for the proper coordination which enabled every household in Puting Bato to receive the goods.

True to her word, Ms. Cronin went around Buenavista most especially in the barangay of Anonang where it was reported by social media as the “fault line” to see for herself, how else they can be of help in the  town’s rehabilitation.

Alegre Beach Resort may be 60 kilometers away from Cebu and a sea apart from Bohol but it didn’t stop them from bringing the true meaning of “service excellence” to Boholanons in their time of need especially in the town of Buenavista. (FREEMAN)
