CSCC undertakes multimillion facelift

Ritche T. Salgado - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - In order to “keep up with the times” and to better address the needs of its member-clients, City Sports Club-Cebu (CSCC) allotted P76 million for renovations, set to be finished first quarter of 2013.

In a press gathering at the Club’s newly opened Bistro88, Frances Monera, chair of the board of directors of CSCC, revealed that renovations of the club started mid-2011, and as of this writing, several of its facilities are already operational, including Bistro88 which, since it opened October of this year, has been attracting a diverse set of clients and “hitting its objective.”

“The timing of our renovation is just right. It complements the rebranding of  Cebu Business Park and the Cebu IT Park into what is now the Cebu Park District. I cannot imagine the Cebu Park District, or even the Cebu Business Park, without this club,”  Monera said.

CSCC is a joint project of Ayala Land, Inc. and Cebu Holdings, Inc.  intended to be an oasis in the otherwise busy Cebu Business Park.

“It is a very important component of our brand tag,  Live, Work, and Play... there’s a lot of activity going on (at the Cebu Park District). It’s really the center of economic gravity and we have to cater to the other requirements and the CSCC  plays that role,”  he said.

He added that the renovation is done in partnership with ALI, saying, “They have the experience as shown in its other clubs like the Anvaya Cove, an exclusive community leisure development in Morong, Bataan.”

Monera revealed that priority has been given to the renovation of function rooms and food and beverage facilities considering that it significantly contributes to the revenue of the club.

CSCC  General Manager Noemi Solon said that of the P60 million annual revenue of the club, P25 million is from food and beverage. A significant part of the revenue also comes from functions and membership dues.

Solon said that of the 2,000 club shares being offered, 1,025 shares have already been sold, and including dependents, the club caters to more than 2,000 active members.

Monera revealed that focus on the renovation is also given to amenities that are widely used by its clients, including the function rooms, board/meeting rooms, the gym, and the food outlets.

Currently, work is being done on the outdoor area that covers the pool, the gardens, and the veranda. This is expected to be finished first quarter of 2013.

The lobby, including the driveway is also expected to be finished by next year.

While the basement, the billiards and the bowling area is set to be renovated after.

Monera said that since the inception of the club in 2001, it has been envisioned to be “urban resort destination” and to be Cebu's leisure and sports club.

“We want our members to be really proud of the club that they own,”  he said.  (FREEMAN)
