Salinas River (Drive)

MOTORIST’S CORNER - Nimrod NL Quiones - The Philippine Star

It flooded on Salinas Drive last Saturday afternoon during the heavy downpour and this did not only result in many stranded commuters, but also heavy traffic.

After the floods, garbage was strewn all over the place.

This is a very sad reminder that our government is not doing enough to solve not only the drainage problem, but also the garbage problem.

Sometimes, it takes something really big to happen before any action is taken. This would make us hope that there would be elections every year as the polls seem to encourage the leaders to work.

On our way to Lapu-Lapu City via the Marcelo Fernan Bridge on Wednesday last week, we noticed that despite the repairs being done, the north-bound vehicles are still made to make a right turn on the way to the U-turn slot.

This procedure of forcing the north-bound vehicles to make a right turn was meant to decongest the intersection, but with the repair work, maybe it would be possible to suspend such procedure for the duration.

When we passed, we saw about three traffic law enforcers huddled in the small outpost.

We hope that the TEAM, Mandaue’s traffic authority, would look into that possibility.

We learned from a reliable source that the vehicle overpass at the junction of Archbishop Reyes, Salinas Drive and Juan Luna Ave is due for repair.

The overpass or flyover, as many call it, will be closed to traffic during the repair. This will no doubt result to very heavy traffic in the area and we hope that the CITOM is ready to do its job.

We have received many complaints about CITOM’s failure to do its job properly, so we hope that there would be proper coordination.

Last week, we received a call from a reader who is asking what has happened to their request for a meeting with CITOM regarding allowing vehicles to make a left turn to F. Cabahug St. going to the Cebu Business Park.

The reader said that they were promised a meeting, but nothing has been called.

We referred the matter to Chairman Sylvan ‘Jack’ Jakosalem and we hope that he would heed the request of these people.
