Int’l thoracic, cardiovascular surgeons meet in Manila

The Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia (ATCSA) will hold its 17th biennial congress in Manila on Nov. 20-23.

Renowned surgeons from Asia, Europe, Australia and United States will present the latest developments in the specialty.

"This is a memorable and important event for us because the first ATCSA congress was also held in Manila in 1972," said Dr. Avelino Aventura, chairman of the organizing committee of the convention to be held at Makati Shangri-la Hotel.

Highlights of the scientific program include valve surgery, congenital heart surgery, aortic aneurysm and dissection, surgery for the failing heart, esophageal surgery, heart and lung transplantation, cerebral protection, minimally invasive surgery, and re-do cardiac surgery.

In addition, the emerging technologies in cellular therapy in cardiac surgery, robotics in cardiothoracic surgery, evolving surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, and developments in the artificial lung will be discussed.
