Lafarge joins ‘Habitat for Humanity’program

Lafarge in the Philippines celebrated its second year’s participation in "Habitat for Humanity" program focusing on how to create more meaning for its shelter beneficiaries.

Topping last year’s donation, Lafarge officials led company staff in donating 6,000 bags of cement to the Habitat for Humanity Philippines Foundation Inc. in various locations in the country. They were personally on hand to participate in the weeklong Lafarge Blitz Build of five houses in Soldier’s Hills in Putatan, Muntinlupa City recently.

The donation translates into filling the cement requirement for the construction of 49 standard ‘Habitat’ homes to be built in the country this year.

About 70 employees comprising companies where Lafarge has investments, namely, Fortune Cement Corp., FR Cement Corp., Republic Cement Corp., and Continental Operating Corporation gave part of themselves in distributing joy and fun to children-beneficiaries and their friends.

Leading the team were Lafarge Cement Services (Philippines) Inc. president Peter Hoddinott, senior vice president for External Relations Rene Sunico, SVP for Finance Jean Dominique Sejourne and SVP for Human Resources Edgardo Soriano. They were joined by Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, Congressman Raffy Biazon, Habitat for Humanity Philippines managing director Joey Mendoza and Habitat Muntinlupa president Nards Leviste.

The event was capped with a party for the 19 streetchildren under the care of the Tulay ng Kabataan Foundation Inc. and the children of the home beneficiaries as part of the culminating activity of the Lafarge build. In return, the streetchildren showed off their talent in puppetry, making the event a fun-filled experience not only for the kids but for the volunteers as well.
