12 MRT-7 stations set to open next year, vows Marcos
MANILA, Philippines — Twelve stations of MRT-7 are set to open next year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Monday, July 27, as he pitched mass transport projects as relief for commuters affected by high fuel prices.
In his fifth State of the Nation Address, Marcos said many Filipinos have relied on public transport amid rising petroleum prices, prompting the government to focus on trains, busways, transport hubs, integrated terminals, airports and seaports.
"Sa susunod na taon, bubuksan na rin ang 12 istasyon ng MRT-7," Marcos said. (In the following year, the 12 stations of MRT-7 will also be opened.)
After nearly three decades, Marcos said, the MRT system will have a new line running from North Avenue to Sacred Heart in Quezon City.
He said the line would eventually reach San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
The president said the project would bring major relief to nearly 1 million passengers daily.
Marcos also credited the recently enacted Accelerated and Reformed Right-of-Way Act, saying it would help resolve right-of-way issues faster and remove one of the biggest choke points in the country's mass transit development program.
Other transport projects
Marcos also said trains of the North-South Commuter Railway are expected to run between Valenzuela and Malolos next year.
The Department of Transportation, he said, would work to complete the railway up to Clark in Pampanga before the end of his administration.
Marcos also cited progress in bus rapid transit projects, saying the first phase of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit is already open.
A bus rapid transit project in Ilocos Norte is set to be inaugurated next year, he added. — with Anj Andaya
