CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos kicking Warriors secured a hard-fought victory against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation to claim their fourth title in the 2016 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) tertiary men's football tournament yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Both squads went scoreless in the regulation and overtime resulting into a shootout in which USC prevailed, 7-6.

USC goalkeeper Terrence Colmenares was hailed as Most Valuable Player after two crucial defensive stops to USPF’s Emil Gumba and Mark Dave Ordiales’s goal attempts.

Sealing the win for USC was Pomeroy Mark Veloso who sank the winning goal.

Meanwhile, USPF’s Cloyd Abare was the best defender, while University of the Visayas’ Kenneth John Vargas nabbed the top scorer award as Micko Luzon was named best goalkeeper.

In the men’s tertiary volleyball, defending champion Southwestern University-Phinma arranged a finals duel with the University of San Jose-Recoletos scheduled on November 19.

SWU-Phinma registered a lopsided 25-16, 25-22, 25-23 victory over USC to seal the finals berth. (FREEMAN)
