MANILA, Philippines — Five people, including an 11-month-old baby, died after they were trapped inside a burning apartment building in Caloocan City before dawn yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze broke out at 1:01 a.m. in a two-story apartment with six units along Sinilyasi street in Barangay 8.

The blaze reached the first alarm at 1:06 a.m. before it was extinguished at 2:04 a.m.

Based on initial reports, the fatalities were unable to escape after they were trapped inside one of the apartment units as the fire spread.

Six families were living in the apartment building.

The BFP has yet to release the identities of the fatalities pending notification of their families.

Arson probers are still determining the cause of the fire and the amount of damage to property.
