Ipinagmalaki grades ng VP sa Bar Exam

MANILA, Philippines — Tinawag ni Senate Impeachment Court Presiding Judge Francis “Chiz” Escudero ang atensiyon ng abogado ni Vice Pres. Sara Duterte dahil sa mga pahayag nito tungkol sa naging grade ng Bise Presidente sa Bar examinations.

Nangyari ito matapos banggitin ng defense counsel na si Mark Vinluan ang legal na background ni Duterte habang isinasagawa ang cross-examination kay NBI official Jeremy Lotoc, testigo ng House prosecution panel, sa pagpapatuloy ng impeachment trial ni Duterte.

Binanggit ni Vinluan ang legal na background ni Duterte nang tanungin niya si Lotoc kung naniniwala itong may saysay ang umano’y plano ng bise presidente na ipapatay si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., gayong isa siyang abogado.

Tinutukoy ng defense lawyer ang naging pahayag ni Duterte sa isang press conference noong Nobyembre 2024, kung saan sinabi umano nitong kumuha siya ng isang mamamatay-tao upang patayin ang Pangulo at mga miyembro ng pamilya nito sakaling siya ang maunang mapatay.

“Are you aware that the Vice President is a lawyer? That she has, of course, a law degree and passed the Bar Exams? With a first attempt and with a rating of 80 percent, are you aware of this?” tanong ni Vinluan kay Lotoc, na isa ring abogado. “She has a higher grade than most of the lawyers here,” dagdag pa ng defense counsel.

Agad namang kinontra ni Atty. Amando Virgil Ligutan, miyembro ng House Prosecution Panel ang naging pahayag ni Vinluan at sinabing wala itong kaugnayan sa isyung itinatanong sa testigo.

Sumang-ayon si Escudero at hiniling kay Vinluan na iwasan ang mga ganoong “disparaging statements.”

“Counsel for the respondent, kindly avoid those disparaging statements given that there are a lot of lawyers here and you don’t know what their grades are,” ani Escudero, na isa ring abogado.
