PHIVOLCS records ash emissions at Kanlaon Volcano
CEBU, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded on Saturday morning ash emissions at Kanlaon Volcano in the Negros Island Region, generating grayish plumes that rose 600 meters above the summit.
Phivolcs said the emission occurred at 7:04 a.m. and lasted for 97 minutes. The ash was seen moving northwest and westward.
With increased unrest, Kanlaon had nine volcanic earthquakes, including two volcanic tremors with 18 to 41 minutes' duration.
The volcano remains under Alert Level 2, and entry into the four-kilometer-radius permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited.
Meanwhile, Mayon Volcano effused lava down the gullies of Basud at 3.8 kilometers, Bonga at 3.2 kilometers and Mi-isi at 1.8 kilometers.
The volcano had 362 rockfall incidents and four pyroclastic density current signals or uson from 12 a.m. on Friday to 12 a.m. on Saturday, Phivolcs said.
Episodic minor strombolian activity was observed from the volcano, with moderate plumes rising to 750 meters drifting southwest, west and west-northwest.
Phivolcs noted 1,452 tonnes of sulfur dioxide emissions from Mayon Volcano on Friday.
Alert Level 3, or Magmatic Unrest, prevails over the volcano. — (FREEMAN)Philippine Star News Service
