Olea, Gonzalez rule S’woods Founders tilt
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club kicked off its grand silver anniversary celebrations with the first Founders Cup with Raul Olea and Paco Gonzalez leading the winners at the Legends course in Carmona, Cavite recently.
Olea, a 7-handicapper, captured the Class A crown with 43 points while board member Gonzalez fired a 42 to take the Class B crown.
Ricardo Bernabe Jr. and Rey Mendoza shot identical 44 points but the former made one birdie and grabbed the Class C plum via countback.
Jaime Cacho hit two birdies in the last four holes for 44 points to edge Ranie Carlos by one in the Guest division.
The Founders Cup was organized to honor the members who bought their shares on or before Manila Southwoods opened in 1992.
The Board of Directors, led by chairman Robert John Sobrepeña, thanked the members and long-time partners for their loyalty and support the last 25 years.
