LPA develops into tropical depression; named 'Fabian'
MANILA, Philippines - The low pressure area spotted off Batangas has developed into a tropical depression and was named "Fabian," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported before noon Thursday.
PAGASA said that as of 11 a.m., the tropical depression's center was estimated at 290 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center.
The tropical depression was moving north northwest at a speed of 11 kph.
PAGASA said that "Fabian" will move closer to Sinait, Ilocos Norte by Friday morning and to Laoaug City by Saturday morning before moving out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio had said that the chances of the tropical depression making landfall was very remote.
"Tropical Depression 'Fabian' has no direct effect to any part of the country," the weather bureau said in its bulletin.
It said "Fabian" will enhance the southwest monsoon and will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Palawan province and other parts of Luzon.
