Aga asks Comelec to nullify Fuentebella’s proclamation

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Actor-politician Aga Muhlach yesterday asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to nullify the proclamation of Felix William Fuentebella due to alleged irregularities in Monday’s elections.

Through his legal counsel, Aga said the Comelec should set aside the certificates of canvass and proclamation (COCP) of the congressional race in the fourth district of Camarines Sur.

The Comelec declared Fuentebella as the new elected representative of the fourth district after garnering 82,834 votes as against Aga’s 80,629.

The actor was initially reported as the winner in the congressional race. But two days after the elections, he filed a petition before the Comelec seeking to declare  failure of elections in several areas in the province.

He said the results of the elections were not transmitted, as he noted that some compact flash cards of the precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines were found to be corrupted.

The actor-politicial also cited the rejection of ballots by some PCOS machines in various polling precincts.  He said there were machines that were left unguarded.

Aside from technical glitches, Aga claimed reports of violence and intimidation could have affected the election results.
