6 hurt in road crash

MANILA, Philippines — Five elementary students and a 43-year-old woman were injured when a van hit them in front of a school in Manila on Wednesday.

Mark RV Suringa, 11; Clarence Eusebio, 10; Rain Jasmine Pision, 10; Aaron San Jose, 11; Marjorie Matawaran, 9, and her mother Jonna, 43, remain under observation at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Senior Police Officer 1 Roberto Lorenzo of the Manila Police District traffic unit said Margarito dela Vega, 45, driver of the Toyota Innova (TOB- 674) was arrested after the accident.

Police said Dela Vega stopped in front of Plaridel Elementary School to give way to students who were crossing Lico Street in Sta. Cruz at around 6:30 p.m.

He accidentally hit the gearshift, causing the van to ram the victims, probers said.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and malicious mischief were filed against Dela Vega.
