Talisay City Council to tackle petition vs urban poor chair

Iris Mariani B. Algabre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Council will discuss today the petition of the federation of the city’s urban poor associations seeking the resignation of Councilor Doroteo Emit as chairman of the council’s urban poor committee.

The petition filed by the Federation of Talisay City Urban Dwellers Association (FETCUDA) will be discussed by the council as a committee of the whole after two months since its filing.

It was originally referred to the committee on laws and ethics chaired by Councilor Gail Restauro. The committee reportedly conducted investigation on the complaint.

Restauro said his committee gathered information on the matter from the complainants. Restauro said his committee found it necessary to involve the other members of the City Council since committee chairmanships were given through resolution.

He said a mere committee report cannot amend a resolution approved by the council.

“In a span of two months, atong gibuhat nag-gather ta og facts ug mga testimonies sa both parties. Dili man madali kay considering nga ang FETCUDA ang members kay more than 6,000, ang mga presidents gitagaan nato’g time nga maka-visit sa office,” Restauro said.

Emit welcomed the investigation.

“Nindot sad kaayo kay we are in a democratic form of a government. Ako, I’m still hopeful sa atong gi-prepare nga counter letter sa petition and I believe we will focus on the merit and not the political aspect,” Emit said. (FREEMAN)
