Mandaue cops to train TEAM in drawing traffic accident sketches

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City Council has approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Gabriel Luigi Quisumbing to sign a memorandum of agreement with Mandaue City Police Office to conduct training to traffic enforcers on how to draw traffic accident sketches.

Senior Superintendent Roberto Alanas, director of police in the city, said he sees no reason not to assist the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) in their responsibilities, including drawing traffic accident sketches.

Under the agreement, the MCPO will conduct training for the traffic personnel, while the city government will provide funding for the training.

The city government will also ensure that TEAM personnel will attend the training while MCPO will prepare modules to be used.

The refresher training shall be conducted once every three months on the first year and once every six months on the succeeding years.

Last week, the City Council already approved hiring additional traffic enforcers who can do spot vehicular accident sketching or collision diagram.

Councilor Elston Dabon wants to authorize qualified traffic enforcers to provide immediate response to traffic or vehicular accidents, in coordination with the traffic police.

Dabon, who chairs the committee on transportation, said that vehicular accidents cause buildup of traffic in the streets because of the delay in the arrival of traffic police.

In the approved measure, the council’s committee on laws agreed to amend Section 3 of the ordinance that allows the board to appoint job order TEAM enforcers who shall be responsible for the enforcement and implementation of all traffic rules and regulations in the city, as provided for under the national traffic code and the city traffic code. This will be done in coordination with the Land Transportation Office.

Also, they will provide immediate response to any traffic/vehicular accident and make vehicular accident sketches in the absence or delayed arrival of a traffic police. (FREEMAN)
