LTO-7 apprehends 272 cars over the weekend

CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office-7 has apprehended 272 vehicles over the weekend, said regional director Victor Caindec.

“Bawal mo pahuway kay masuko niya mo nga wa mi ga trabaho (We are not allowed to rest on weekends because you might be furious that we are not working)," said the director on his Facebook post.

Caindec described the operation as an "endurance weekend" posted on his Facebook the photos of the motorcycles that were apprehended for impounding.

Of the 272 vehicles that were apprehended by LTO-7 Law Enforcement Officers together with the Cebu City Police Office - Traffic Enforcement Unit, who conducted the roadside inspection in the infamous banking site of the motorcycle enthusiasts in Cebu, Transcentral Highway, in Cebu City on April 16, a total of 31 motorcycles were impounded and 78 motorcycle owners received electronic Temporary Operator's Permits (e-TOPs).

Also a total of 145 vehicles were issued e-TOPs while 18 vehicles (9 motorcycles, 9 four-wheel vehicles) were impounded during the operation.

Caindec added that most of the violations for those that were impounded were driving with expired licenses, expired registrations, mufflers exceeding the allowed decibels, and/or with defective or missing equipment/parts in their vehicles.

While violations that resulted in the issuance of e-TOPs were because of non-wearing of seatbelts and/or overloading.

Caindec further said that more e-TOPs were issued during the roadside inspection of LTO-7 together with the City of Talisay Traffic Operations & Development Authority (CCTODA) and Talisay City Police last Friday, April 14, 2023, at the South Road Properties. — GMR (FREEMAN)
