MANILA, Philippines — Subdivisions are joining the Department of Health (DOH)’s efforts to vaccinate as many children as possible against polio.
Residents of Barangay San Antonio in Pasig City are giving away until the end of October grocery packs to the families of the first 100 children who will be vaccinated to encourage more parents to do the same.
The barangay is targeting to administer the oral polio vaccine (OPV) to about 1,000 children in the area.
Barangay chairman Raymond Lising said his barangay has given out biscuits, milk and other healthy snacks.
“We want all children aged 0 to 5 to get vaccinated with all the doses of the OPV so that they will be protected from the poliovirus. This is the reason why we came up with the Healthy Grocery Items for the first 100 kids, to encourage parents to have them vaccinated,” Lising said, adding that grocery items were donated by anonymous private individuals.
Lising also urged parents to maintain a clean environment to prevent the spread of the polio virus.
