Kring-Kring apologizes for daughter’s Twitter rant

MANILA, Philippines - The newly elected mayor of Tacloban City has apologized for her daughter’s post on Twitter cursing vice presidential frontrunner Camarines Sur. Rep. Leni Robredo.

“On behalf of my daughter Sofia I apologize for such words she tweeted about Leni. As a mother and most especially as a Christian, I do not approve of such words,” mayor-elect Cristina Romualdez said on her Facebook post.

“I believe she didn’t realize what she was doing. I have met Leni when we went to the wake of her husband and I know she does not deserve such words,” said Romualdez.

She appealed for forgiveness for her daughter, saying the girl is “still very young.”

In her Twitter post, Sofia also questioned the capability of Robredo, and called her “stupid” and “inexperienced.”

Sofia received criticisms over the post, with some pointing out that her mother – a former actress – was also a plain housewife before entering politics.

Romualdez was popularly known as Kring-Kring Gonzales.

“What I said about Leni was out of frustration and anger. I’m human and I make mistakes too. I’m sorry if I offended anyone,”  Sofia said in her apology before taking down her Twitter account.

Robredo is in a tight race for vice president against Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., a relative of the Romualdezes.
