MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will release its decision on the fare reduction petition filed by several transport groups on January 22, Friday.

After transport groups Federation of Jeepney Operators and drivers association of the Philippines, Liga ng Mga Tsuper at Operator sa Pilipinas INC, Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization and Pasang Masda Nationwide Inc. went to the LTFRB and filed petition asking to lower jeepney fare to P7, the LTFRB said it will decide on the matter on Friday.

If the board agrees, the LTFRB targets its rollback effective Friday.

The transport groups on Wednesday filed the petition following the series of rollbacks of pump prices due to price movement in the global market.

LTFRB Chair Winston Ginez earlier vowed that the board will issue a win-win solution for both drivers and commuters.

He said the provisional fare reduction for public utility jeep will be effective in National Capital Region and Regions 3 and 4.

The current jeepney fare is P7.50.
