Former presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. is withdrawing his bid for senator, he says on his Facebook page.
He says he is withdrawing because of health issues.
"I have recently undergone a percutaneous coronary intervention following the discovery of an unstable angina coronary disease earlier this week. In the days since the procedure, I have been forced to confront the reality of my physical situation and what it ultimately means for my aspirations to public service," he says.
Roque, a human rights lawyer before joining government, had initially said he was running as a party-list representative and would advocate passage of laws to protect the environment. Days later, he pushed through with filing a certificate of candidacy for senator.

Samira Gutoc-Tomawis, a former member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission and a former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao lawmaker, will run for senator under the Liberal Party-led opposition coalition, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, party president, says.
In an announcement on his website, Pangilinan says Gutoc made the decision after a meeting with him on Wednesday.
"We aim to bring understanding of the issues of Muslims and women and to bring about harmony and peace in the country, especially in the region of Mindanao," she says in the announcement.
Gutoc resigned from the BTC over the imposition of martial law in Mindanao, concerns over risks that airstrikes posed on civilians and homes in Marawi City during fighting there between government troops and Maute terrorists, and President Rodrigo Duterte's remarks about soldiers raping women.
In July 2017, she testified before Congress on reports of abuses amid martial law in Mindanao.

Bong Revilla Jr., former senator and current chairman of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, will run for senator in 2019, party president Martin Romualdez announces Friday.
"His passion and dedication to serve the people will bring positive change and help improve the country's good governance, policies, and lawmaking process. His experience as a two-term senator has helped him gain an understanding about the complexities of various problems besetting the nation. Senator Bong's integrity and honesty will make him a strong candidate for the Senate," Romualdez says in a statement.
The Sandiganbayan anti-graft court in August ended Revilla's trial for plunder over his alleged misuse of P244 million in his Priority Development Assistance Fund.
The case is up for resolution.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque says it is an honor that President Rodrigo Duterte is supporting his potential Senate candidacy next year. But he feels tied down by the financial challenges of the bid.
"I do not have P500 million, " says Roque at a Palace news conference, as reported by the STAR's Alexis Romero.
Roque quit as party-list representative after President Rodrigo Duterte offered him the post as his main mouthpiece in October 2017.
His statement on Thursday, March 15 comes after he defended the president's move to withdraw the Philippines' membership from the Rome Statute, which governs the International Criminal Court. Before this international tribunal, Duterte has been accused of crimes against humanity over his deadly war on drugs.
