How KC Concepcion keeps it real
KC Concepcion, Shiseido’s first Filipina ambassador

MANILA, Philippines — Actress KC Concepcion becoming the first Filipina ambassador for Japanese global cosmetics brand Shiseido is proof that being authentic and true stands out. I’m inundated with sponsored content on social media; organic and genuine fan-girling is hard to come by but recognizable and totally refreshing when I do.

Such was KC’s frenzied journey to Shiseido Power Plant Mall, documented on her Instagram stories, to re-purchase their lash curler which she has used since high school. If you’ve never tried it, I cosign that it’s also my holy grail, also since high school.

“We had a funny start. We were never looking for a Filipina ambassador in the first place,” Shiseido Philippines brand manager Jen Yalung says.

In KC’s Instastory, the store was closed for an event. “Unlike most celebrities who only take from their best angle, there was KC, trying to force open the door of the store,” Jen shares, laughing, charmed by it all. “It’s the story that almost cost me my job. The following day, I got a call from Shiseido global, saying ‘Hey, why are you closing during mall hours? A local celeb documented it.’ KC steered a renewed relevance of Shiseido as a brand.”

The Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Collection

KC’s followers seconded her raving about the lash curler as well as the rest of the brand’s offerings. Shiseido is that brand that everyone knows is good, effective, something you become loyal to and keep repurchasing. But a celebrity like KC really brought back the hype. As of press time, the lash curler is still sold out in Metro Manila.

What else is only stunning when it looks real? A perfected complexion with makeup. Her appointment coincides with the launch of the new Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing collection which has a foundation with SPF30, cushion compact, a concealer, and two brushes influenced by ancient Japanese beauty rituals. The makeup contains ActiveForce Technology, developed by Shiseido laboratories that debuted in their sunscreens this summer, making it able to resist humidity, respond to heat, rebound from facial movement, absorb oil, and diffuse light. It’s all for a just-applied look that lasts all day. Weightless and second-skin-like, the makeup works best when you get the right shade, which with their in-store scientific shade match device can pinpoint for you.

KC has application tips: “I use my exact shade Linen and then layer with Shell to go lighter or Alder when I want to look tan.”
