NHCP unveils Gen. Trias marker

MANILA, Philippines —  The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the local government of General Trias in Cavite unveiled last Monday the historical marker of the local hero and first vice president of the Philippines, General Mariano Trias, a hundred years after the locality known as the town of Malabon was named after him.

The NHCP and local officials also signed the certificate of transfer and acceptance of historical marker.

The locality became General Trias on Feb. 24,1920, after Act No. 2889 commissioned by Emilio Virata was approved renaming the town after one of its most famous sons.

“The NHCP was commissioned to place a historical marker of General Trias monument in honor of his heroism and contribution to achieving our independence.” NHCP executive director Carminda Arevalo said.

“We need to revive the spirit of General Trias to be recognized by today’s youth and the next generation. let us put the future in the right direction and in the stillness of our beloved city, let us uphold, pray together, help one another, for the sake of our beloved hero General Mariano Trias,” Ferrer said.

Around hundreds of city officials and village leaders attended the historical event of the progressive city of Cavite.

 “Dati po ay natatandaan ko, ang isinisigaw ng mga barker sa mga biyahe ng jeep sa mga pasahero ay Malabon, Malabon.’ Yan po ay tawag sa Bayan ng General Trias noong mga panahon ng mga Kastila.” Kaya po Malabon ay noong unang panahon raw po ay puno ng mga punong kawayan ang bayan ng Heneral Trias kaya dito nakuha ang katagang ‘Malabong’.  Congressman Luis Ferrer tells the story.

Hundred years ago, so the town deserves a name for our town’s hero, General Trias.
