MANILA, Philippines - Sinking my heels into some summer parties, mixing drinks and crowds, I find Cebu in some sort of party high. The success of the Levi’s Roadwear party in Makati led to a follow-up party here in Cebu, hosted by the world’s largest brand of jeans. The crowd at the Penthouse last April 30 was pumped up to the beats of DJ Catherine McQueen, campaign model of Ultimo Wonder Bras, and DJ DNile, voted the best looking model in Milan and London, who flew in just for the event. Showing their support were Jen Jimenez, marketing manager for Levi Strauss Philippines, Inc., and Minette Cuison, marketing coordinator of Levi Strauss Philippines Inc.

Frank Briones, president of Thinline Advertising, along with his staff lead the party series to its success. Lucky party goers wearing their Levi’s ID Curve even won surprise gifts!

Bringing fashion up to speed in Cebu was the Cebu Young Designers’ Competition (CYDC) at the north wing of SM City Cebu. Held on the same weekend, a new breed of designers was made to show-off their collections in search for the next Jun Escario, Cary Santiago or Monique Lhuillier. With the theme Asiatropic style, a panel of judges including Kenneth Cobonpue, Arcy Gayatin and yours truly met with the fierce creative minds of the 11 competing young designers in the pre-judging

portion of the event. With each collection just as unique as the other, Pinky Magalona proved triumphant with her mix-medium ensembles in shredded chiffon and lightweight wool in a collection called Ecclectasia. Cocktails followed the fashion show. CYDC is another project of the Clothes for Life Foundation in Cebu.
