Rude display

Letters to the editor - The Philippine Star

What will be your reaction if you are a “Pinoy” having vacation on Boracay, then all of a sudden you see China’s flag being displayed?

At least two photos went viral on social media after a Chinese tourist exposed the Chinese flag at the beach front.

Natividad Bernardino of Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group stated that they have yet to determine the purpose behind the display of the Chinese flag. She also said that if it was done as a sort of mischievous statement then that is a different story.

We all know that China wants to take control of the Spratly Islands and other islets obviously because of its vast economic resources and strategic location. It desires to secure all methane hydrate for its own and make the West Philippine Sea as an asylum for its nuclear-armed submarine.

China’s government has already declared that the military installations it has built on the islands will be limited to required resistance necessities.

China continues to occupy more zones that it claims as its own despite the assertions of the Philippines, that is why we cannot avoid feeling irritated when issues like these go around.

We hope China would not threaten peace and stability in our territory nor disrupt other countries in the exercise of their sovereign rights.
