Peculiar Images II
I first wrote about young and talented artist Miller Laberinto last year when he had his first solo exhibit called “Peculiar Images.” Times were not convenient to have a show then and his first solo show ended up being a virtual online show.
This time, his second solo show entitled “Peculiar Images II: The Sound of Silence” was held at an actual place: the Ronac Art Center in San Juan City. He presented nostalgic and bizarre illustrations of human figures with his trademark card faces.
The show was inspired by Simon and Garfunkel’s classic hit song The Sound of Silence, which conveys the “inability of people to communicate with each other.” The 10-piece oil painting collection is symbolic of scenarios related to communication, connections, and conversations
My personal favorite was his main piece titled “The Sound of Silence.” The 5 x 8-foot oil painting bears the artist’s interpretation of each verse of the song. He meticulously structured the subject (which was a musical ensemble) in a very impressive manner. In fact, five art collectors were trying to get this but it had been sold already.
Art enthusiasts were totally impressed and couldn’t get enough of Miller’s works and all of his paintings were sold out. The details and the subtlety of his works demonstrate the artist’s creative rendition of contemporary realism and surrealism.
Miller, who is managed by Derek Flores of DF Art agency, expresses his fascination for vintage and cryptic photographs, and classical music. He takes inspiration from the works of Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Nicola Samori, Mitch Griffiths, and Ransom Riggs. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Santo Tomas where he graduated cum laude.
I am already looking forward to Miller’s next show when hopefully more people can attend and actually see his beautiful artworks. I shall pray this time will come soon.
