Fans of Lola Flora, rejoice!

Three weeks ago, Funfare published a follow-up to an earlier headlined story that FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano was poised to come back while observing the new protocols drawn up by the Kapamilya Network for the shoot — that stars and crew should be tested negative before they are all billeted in a hotel for the duration of the shoot (which could last for two weeks or longer), brought socially-distanced and face-masked in shuttles during a change of location, and no chaperons (for stars) are allowed, so they (stars) have to bring with them everything that they need (wardrobe, etc.).

Tough, right? Well, that’s the exigency in these uncertain times (not a flicker of light at the end of the long tunnel yet).

Not only because she’s senior (turning 79 on July 28, coinciding with The STAR’s 34th anniversary), Susan Roces begged off the resumption of the series (calculated to end its five-year run initially in September) since she felt that she couldn’t keep up with the “new normal” procedure. She requested to “kill” her well-loved character Lola Flora who was at her carinderia when it was bombed during the series’ pre-pandemic episode. Cliffhanger: Was Lola Flora killed?

As I was saying (and you will agree with me), the series won’t be complete without Susan, it won’t be the same without her. Minus Susan, it would be tantamount to cutting the show’s link to FPJ (whom lead actor Coco Martin has been desperately trying to imitate...with not much success).

The good news is that Lola Flora has actually survived the bombing and is “hidden” somewhere. Hooray!!! Susan was prevailed upon to please stay. The solution? Susan would shoot her scenes (starting last week) right at her home with co-star Malu Crisologo and with Susan’s nephew Jeffrey as cameraman. Nice compromise: Lola Flora is triumphantly back, with Susan working from home (WFH) like most everybody.

Incidentally, Susan and stars in other Kapamilya shows have gladly agreed to have their talent fees cut in sympathy with the current state of the network. (See official press release below.)

Stay tuned and find out how policeman Cardo will conduct himself during the pandemic. Hmmm, don’t tell me he will attempt to sweep the virus out of the planet?

Pinky Tobiano (lower photo) and co-host Moi Bien (upper photo) with special guests Mayor Chavit Singson (upper photo) and Manny Pacquiao on the finale (eighth) episode of Essential Cleaning Tips with Chemist Pinky Tobiano (on the Cornerstone Entertainment Channel). It will be back anytime soon.

Pinky’s online show gives away cash for drivers, etc.

Chemist Pinky Tobiano’s online show (streaming on the Cornerstone Entertainment Facebook) ended its first season last June 25 with a big bang — and big cash prizes.

“It was my show’s eighth episode and Mayor Chavit Singson helped make it memorable,” said Pinky who has Moi Bien (Piolo Pascual’s assistant) as co-host. “Initially, we announced that P100,000 would be given away among the prizes but Mayor Chavit was so touched by the plight of the guests so he raised the amount to P500,000!” Sen. Manny Pacquiao surprised Mayor Chavit by greeting him happy birthday.”

What a windfall! Among the beneficiaries were jeepney drivers, pedicab drivers, tricycle drivers, Grab drivers, nannies (yayas), waiters and sari-sari store owners.

Pinky happily announced that the show, Essential Cleaning Tips with Chemist Pinky Tobiano, will be back next month (also at 2 p.m. every Thursday, same channel).

“We are giving away more cash prizes,” assured Pinky, “aside from laptops and SM loads. All the viewers have to do is follow the mechanics shown at the start of the episode.”

Shame on you,body-shamers!

If you cannot help, shut up!!!

That’s a stern warning to people who have nothing better to do than to nitpick celebrities who are busy helping frontliners and others in need during this pandemic. Angel Locsin, who is proving true to her name by rushing to the rescue of victims of natural (and man-made) disasters, has been the target of body-shamers who fail to distract her  from her philanthropic projects (distribution of disinfectants, relief goods, PPEs, etc.). Heard that she even sold a car to raise funds.

“Ayoko na lang pansinin para wala akong issue sa sarili ko,” Angel texted Funfare.

Body-shamers should be ashamed of themselves. Instead of resorting to unfruitful acts, they should watch and be inspired by Angel’s new public-service show Iba ‘Yan, featuring feel-good stories. It airs Sundays at 6:15 p.m. on Kapamilya Channel.

I cheered Angel “Right on!” and told her I would pray for her. I think the following food for thought attributed to then Mother Teresa of Calcutta (now Saint Teresa) will make Angel feel a little better: People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motive. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.
