The value of storytelling

One of the most important things we pass on to our children are valuable lessons we gain over time.

Some lessons are either shared experiences while others are taught through storytelling.

I loved books when I was a child and reading them over and over again had a lasting effect on me especially when there was a great lesson to learn.

Reading and storytelling had the same positive effect on my children that to this day they still recall their favorite stories.

I remember when I was tasked to do early childhood work where reading to both parents and children was an advocacy I wanted to share to as many parents and their children in the early formative years.

I firmly believe that parents who read to their children are able to provide them with  basic building blocks in developing the love for learning. I always felt that reading stories together as a family or even in school, developed a certain bond that included both honing skills and values.

We will always find ourselves in certain occasions where we recall a story told to us by our mothers and fathers or even our grandparents and sharing it with the hope that we are able to deliver the same message.

This is what makes storytelling so wonderful.

In the 21st century where technology and a fast paced life takes precedence over traditional means, simple storytelling will always remain to be in the forefront for those who believe that a human connection is essential in obtaining quality of life.
