The best products from the Maybelline x Gigi collection

Model Gigi Hadid and Maybelline recently launched a collaborative makeup range consisting of three collections, West Coast Glow, East Coast Glam and the limited-edition Jetsetter Palette, all inspired and created by the model’s jet-set lifestyle and aesthetic. MNY x Gigi’s packaging is attraction enough and a hint of things to come, namely, lots of nudes and a bit of shine. My initial thought on the packaging: It’s not millennial pink; this is a grown-up makeup collection. So, points for that.

West Coast Glow

West Coast Glow is sunkissed and sultry, like Hadid when she’s laid-back in a cropped top and her signature ponytail, all bronzed up and rocking a bold red lip. The warm California vibes of Hadid’s hometown inspires the collection. It includes three matte lipsticks and lip liners. A tip from the model herself: “I apply lipstick first, then lip liner because it’s easier for me to line my lips that way.” The lip liners (P249 each) go on smoothly and don’t break when you press too hard, and the three shades complement the three lipsticks (P349 each) — Lani, Khair and Austyn, which are all brilliant reds. You just have to pick one that matches your skin tone. A bluish red is best for me, so I like Austyn.

Also included in West Coast Glow are two Gigi Hadid Eye Shadow Palettes (P599 each), the Cool and the Warm, each with six shades curated by Gigi; a gel liner, a Tinted Primer in Medium Deep (P499), and the Gigi Hadid Liquid Strobing Cream in Warm (P399). Because Maybelline has really good bases across the board, the primer and liquid strobe are no-brainers — you have to get them. Also, aren’t they the first steps to achieving that Gigi Hadid glow?

East Coast Glam

Imagine Gigi out and about with the girls, with her signature nude lip and cat eye. That’s what this collection is about. It includes the nude lipstick-and-lip-liner kits: Taura (a pinkish nude), Erin (a deep rosy nude), and McCall (a peachy coral). The lip shades are paired with two Gigi Hadid Eye Contour Palettes in Warm and Cool (P599 each), for deep-set Gigi eyes. To further enhance the eyes for a nighttime look, there’s the Gigi Hadid Liquid Eyeliner, Gel Eyeliner, Fiber Mascara and Brow Pencil. For your base, there are two shades of Gigi Hadid BB Cushion (Natural and Fair, P799 each), Tinted Primer in Light Medium (P499), and Liquid Strobe in Cool, which I am told is a bestseller everywhere.

Jetsetter Palette

The limited-edition Gigi Hadid Jetsetter Palette (P1899) is a looker, with warm shades, creamy powders that melt at the touch, and a flattering combination of lipsticks and eyeshadow. Its objective is to ease the transition from day-to-night, especially when traveling and you don’t have a lot of tools or products at hand. The peachy shades are also designed to give skin a glow, which we tend to lose when flying. I like that unlike other palettes, the powders don’t all have shimmer. Those that do have shimmer, however, have just enough to highlight without overpowering the face.
