Pond’s girl Jasmine Curtis-Smith lives ‘beautiful’

FiFTY SHADES OF RED - Arian Yupangco - The Philippine Star

Summer is sizzling its way into the country and if you’re not stocking up on cute swimsuits and shades, then you’re probably debating with friends which beach locale is best to hit this season.

But whether you’re a beach bunny who can’t wait to kick back and enjoy the surf, or a city chick who would rather have a staycation in the urban jungle, you’ll still need to keep one crucial thing in mind: sun protection. After all, it takes just 10 minutes for skin to start getting damaged by the sun. Remember that short walk to the open parking lot after some shopping on a hot day? Well, if you didn’t apply any SPF beforehand, that damage has already been done. Literally. But this doesn’t mean we have to hide from the sun, because Pond’s has released its newest skin essential that’s sure to be every gal’s beach buddy or city sidekick this summer: the Pond’s White Beauty Cream with Advanced SPF 15.

The poolside soirée launch, held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza, got just about everyone ready and giddy for summer. Three interactive lounges were set up where guests could express their “summer personalities” with three very special ladies: Laureen Uy for fashion, Xandra Rocha for travel, and Zo Aguila for beauty.

At Laureen’s lounge, we got to match and pair various accessories together to create our own, personalized summer outfit.  Xandra, on the other hand, gave tips on the best vacation spots to visit and what to do there. At her booth, guests were able to identify their beach personality. Are you a Laidback Beach Lover, Beach Explorer, or Beach Party Girl? Let’s just say I’m a fighter as well as a (laidback beach) lover.

Last but not least, we got to select our top three summer beauty must-haves with Zo using just about the cutest stamps I’ve ever seen that featured designs such as a tube of Pond’s Flawless White Whitening Expert BB Cream and Pond’s Acne Clear White 10-in-1 Facial Foam.

My choices? A summer makeup palette, a classy pair of sunnies and, of course, Pond’s White Beauty Cream with SPF 15.

Ever-perky host Sam Oh discussed with Pond’s brand manager Cesca Silvestre the biggest concerns of Filipina women when it comes to their skin at this time of year.

“The biggest skincare worries during summer are largely due to the sun,” Cesca said. “They (Filipinas) recognize now that, aside from its burning effect, it also leaves long-term damage with too much exposure. The other big concern is about oil control, because as we all know when it’s humid and really hot, our oil glands are extra active and that leads to pimples.”

Some popular skincare and sun-protection myths were also either busted or confirmed by Dr. Anna Palabyab, who talked about the importance of applying SPF even on non-sunny days; what UVA and UVB rays are; and the best way to remember what kind of damage they inflict.

“UVB is for ‘burn’ and UVA is for ‘aging,’ which is responsible for lines and that leathery skin damage,” explains Dr. Palabyab.

This is why Pond’s New White Beauty Cream with Advanced SPF 15 is the perfect summer beauty tool. Still formulated with Korean ginseng and saffron to give you that rosy-white glow, it now also protects skin from both UVA and UVB rays while at the same time not leaving your skin feeling greasy, thanks to its powdery finish.

The climate isn’t the only thing that’s heating up these days. One star’s career is also on fire as she’s not just the newest “it” girl on and off screen, but also Pond’s brand-new fresh face: Jasmine Curtis-Smith. Gleaming and radiant in a chic, all-white ensemble, Jasmine was almost immediately in tears as soon as she was called into the spotlight.

“I just feel so special and welcomed in the [Pond’s] family,” Jasmine says. “Aside from being so overwhelmed, I’m thankful to have an endorsement like Pond’s.”

As to why Jasmine was chosen, Cesca says, “She’s driven and ambitious — this for us embodies the Pond’s girl. She lives ‘beautiful’ and this is the Pond’s philosophy. Also, despite her hectic schedule, she makes sure that she takes care of herself and handles her beauty, believing that it’s a source of strength and an enabler for her to achieve her dreams.”

Jasmine was undoubtedly eager to share why she loves the new Pond’s White Beauty cream to everyone right after, saying, “Other than the powder finish, it has the PA (the amount of protection a sunscreen offers from UVA rays), which gives protection from the harsh sunlight, aside from the SPF. So unless you start now, then expect it (your skin) to age very quickly.”

Divulging her plans for the summer, Jasmine says, “I’m hoping I will be able to be at the beach for Holy Week and for my birthday,” which is this April. “That would be the perfect birthday gift for me.”
