Making bold statements with Pedro

FiFTY SHADES OF RED - Arian Yupangco - The Philippine Star

As a beauty junkie, you’re more likely to catch me splurging on a new makeup collection first over a raved-about must-have dress or to-die-for shoes. Though I’m no fashion maven, I can be picky when it comes to clothing brands. I like my brands easy to work with, meaning they have that balance of bold and basic, edgy and classic, sophisticated and simple. But finding brands like this is surprisingly easier said than done. Even as I write this, only a handful of names instantly come to mind. These are the exceptions — the chosen ones, as I like to call them. One new collection from any of them and I’d happily pass up a new eye-shadow palette or lipstick. No easy feat for a makeup junkie and beauty blogger like me, just so you know! Safe to say then I won’t be adding anything new to my beauty collection at the moment since Pedro recently launched its autumn-winter 2013 collection, and with new accessories for both men and women, you’re sure to find something that’ll easily help you make simple yet bold everyday fashion statements, no matter if you’re style-savvy or couture-clueless.

On why Pedro decided to present its first collection launch this month despite the brand’s nine stores around the metro and its presence in the country since 2007, Kristine Lim, AVP for Brand Marketing for Suyen Corporation, explains, “We wanted to launch the brand when we knew it was already established with a strong store presence. We believe that Pedro now has just the right number of stores and it was simply timely to have this launch.”

Held in the gallery of Greenbelt 5, the launch was the perfect spot to highlight the collection’s theme: urban modernism. No matter your lifestyle or what direction your fashion compass points to, invoking urban modernism is a no-brainer. It’s all about versatility and wearability mixed with just the right amount of style, edge, and flair for sleek silhouettes. Speaking of silhouettes, perfect examples of those strutted down the runway with models looking effortlessly stylish while decked out in Pedro accessories as well as clothes by Celio and Karen Millen, for the hunky males and gorgeous females, respectively.

Off to a lunch date, ladies? Slip on a classic, slim belted white dress with a flared hem of your own and accompany it with a pair of Pedro’s black inner side cutout pumps featuring tassels and gold-plated heels, and don’t forget your black leather wallet with cutout details. What about if you just want something more laidback for an always-preferable day out at the mall? Then grab a basic tee or blouse to wear with your skinny jeans that’ll go with your nude, suede ballerina flats with brocade embroidery tip and encrusted crystals. Top that off with a turquoise mini-clutch bag for a pop of color and you’re good to go! What about you dudes out there that want to dress to impress? There’s always a pair of black calf leather boots with embossed trimming and buckled detailing you can reach for to go with your trimmed blazer and jeans. For a more office-chic look, brown, sleek lace-ups with all-round brogue detailing or a black, high-shine leather belt with an embossed leather flat buckle is sure to earn you a few compliments.

“The brand is popular because fashion-forward individuals appreciate how we remain trendy,” says Freddy Chew, Pedro’s Singapore-based regional operations manager who visits the Philippines at least three times a year. “At the same time, people also like the comfortableness they experience with what they wear from Pedro.”

Even Kristine is rightfully proud to state what she loves best about the brand: “What we love about Pedro is the quality of its craftsmanship and their eye for detail. Not only do they use high-quality materials with their shoes, for example, but they also zoom into every feature of the shoe, from the stitches to the shoelaces, from the color to the texture of the material. Every part is thought through.” With that, who’s up for a little shopping spree? First stop, Pedro!
